My recent stay at what was supposed to be a luxurious 5-star hotel Anantara Seminyak, turned out to be an absolute nightmare. I cannot express enough how deeply disappointed I am with the uncleanliness of the staff, rooms, and the lack of any form of satisfactory customer service during my stay. Upon arrival, it was evident that the hotel was not living up to its prestigious reputation. It was clear that personal hygiene and cleanliness were not a priority for them. The bed sheets emitted an unmistakable stench of sweat. It was evident that they had not been changed or properly cleaned in a long time. The overall cleanliness of the room was visible with dirt and dust in corners and on surfaces. It was a far cry from the pristine conditions one would expect from a 5-star establishment. To add insult to injury, I requested a refund as I couldn’t stay one more night in this hotel and I was promised a refund will be credited to my account. 3 weeks have passed since and I have yet to receive my refund from them, when I contacted them they shared a screen shot of the transaction and what is even more shocking is that the accounts number the transaction was made to was not my account…. It is absolutely unacceptable that a supposedly prestigious hotel would allow such actions uncleanliness to persist and fail to address customer concerns in a satisfactory manner. As a guest, I expected a superior level of service and an experience that would justify the high price tag. Unfortunately, Anantara Seminyak failed to deliver on all fronts. I strongly advise against considering Anantara Seminyak for your accommodations. The uncleanliness of the staff and rooms, combined with the offensive odor and the lack of any form of refund or resolution, make it abundantly clear that this establishment is far from deserving of its 5-star rating. Save yourself the disappointment and seek out a hotel that prioritizes cleanliness and customer satisfaction.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, I booked through an agency and contacted them the same day to upgrade (paid upgrade), and they confirmed the availability during the call. When I was about to book, they advised me to come and check the room before I did so; I informed them I’d be arriving late after 7 pm, and again, they confirmed that they have to available ocean-view suites and I should not worry about the upgrade. In addition, during the booking, I made a note requesting a high floor, and again when I called them, I explained how important this was to me, and availability was confirmed. So I arrived around 7:30-8 pm, and it was the worst hotel arrival experience; the guest relation manager as he said told me there was no upgrade available at the moment despite the phone call, which he was convinced didn’t happen and their team would never confirm such a thing as if I’m lying! And then he assigned a room to us on the ground floor. I told him I couldn’t take it, and he was happy to discuss leaving the hotel with no refund as I booked through an agency! So he was about to kick us out!!! And then, all of the sudden, a room on the 5th floor was found, but to make our lives more difficult, he needed 2-3 hrs to prepare it, so we went to the room around 11 pm. During that time, I contacted the agency for the upgrade, and it was possible after 2 nights, and I was ok with it, but he refused to talk to us. He didn’t authorize other staff to do the upgrade, and the conversation was in front of us, and I’m English with no respect at all!!! And he said, “Let her wait for another manager tomorrow afternoon to authorize it”! I’m still in shock with the attitude. How someone like him works in such a place, the rest of the hotel staff were very respectful and understanding, and they even felt ashamed of his behavior; this honestly falls on management as they need to ensure all staff is up to the standards and able to deliver what a 5-star hotel promises you with. However, the day after, the manager came and did the whole upgrade with no issues, and he sent a fruit basket to the room, which was really appreciated. But still, when I asked for a late checkout, they made me pay for it despite the fact that I didn’t check in till 11 pm on my first day, and they didn’t even think about a refund or something to apologize for the whole disrespect that happened the first day. Regarding the hotel, the ocean-view suite was big and clean, with no comments at all. However, the standard suite was the complete opposite room wasn’t clean even after spending 3 hrs cleaning it, the balcony door don’t close and open easily, and there was an opening that allowed bugs and mosquitoes in the room; the shower didn’t work properly, and the coffee machine was outdated, and the view was a disaster you are in Bali to see a wall and unused pool not even a garden. The hotel facilities were excellent; the food was good, but the smell of everyday BBQ night was too much as it went into the ocean-view suite; the infinity pool was nice and clean, but the service was slow there, unlike other hotel facilities, the moonlight kitchen was nice with a fantastic sunset view, and the location is perfect as it is in the middle of everything. And just to be fair, I would like to thank Mr. Allan, he is a manager that someone can count on, and Ms. Sayu (I hope I’m not saying the name wrong) for her support on the first day and after, she was the reason I didn’t leave the hotel when the guest relation manager kicked us out! And Ms. Bintang for her continuous support during our stay. 2 other staff I completely forgot their names, who helped us settle in our rooms; the first and second were very friendly and professional. Finally, why 1 star? Because first impressions matter and last longer. And unfortunately, our first impression ruined the whole experience and should not be acceptable at any level.

Absolutely great location right at the beach. Staff is very nice, rooms are large and the rooftop hosts our favourite restaurant, the Moonlite. So why only 4 atars? The hotel might need some upgrades and renovation. The breakfast buffet is very nice and offers lots of choices but maybe not enough for 5 stars (i might be a bit harsh here). So, while we will always come back and enjoy another few days in the Anantara, some upgrades are necessary to make it a modern 5 star hotel.
